Zoni Racing Titanium Parts - Spy Photos!

Zoniracing23.09.2010 19:44
Sorry for posting her in English and I hope it's OK.

A little about me - My name is Mike and I've been in the machining and manufacturing side of the world for quite some time now. I'm an Ex-Marine who got into the CNC trade when I got out of the corps. Since then, I have been supplying Mil-Spec products to the military and various businesses around the world. We specialize in Aerospace Titanium machining as well as other alloys like 7075 for the Aerospace industry. Ever since I was introduced to the 5b/T a year ago, I've been braking parts like crazy due to extreme bashing. Just got tired failing parts and and one day, I said to myself - "Self!" I'm in the Titanium business, why don't I make my own parts????". Then the journey began... In the beginning it was for fun, I experimented and tested various parts and design but had no intention of making them public. It was just for personal use. The Ti parts I've made, have proven over the course of time to be lightweight, strong and bulletproof. In my opinion, Ti material is just a superior metal and when done correctly it would greatly benefit the RC industry.

Few months back, me and our engineer on staff, started fooling around with different designs work to see what kind of designs we can come up with. The results have been amazing! It is my hope and joy to share my Titanium creation with you guys and make this hobby a little interesting! All parts sold will go under our new assumed name - "Zoni Racing". We also source our own material from the factory and is able to cut out all middlemen, all savings are extended to you guys! We can produce Ti parts much cheaper that other manufacturers can. We have 25 Ti parts planned and budgeted per quarter for the calendar year, that means you will be looking at 100 parts or so coming out from Zoni Racing this year folks! Hold on to your saddle!

Note: Please note that these pics are property of ZR and some parts designed are already patented. Pleas do not re-post or link to other forums without prior consent from us.

First Up! We have BSW 2 speed layshaft.

Don't know about you but I'm ready to install my 2 speed layshaft and this thing pack a hefty load! We have machined our own 2 speed layshaft out of billet Titanium. Not only will you will shave off 40% in weight, this shaft is also very much stronger up to 180,000 in tensile strength.

Note: Final design will have no shaving. It will be geometrically stronger.

XL Titanium DogBone:

Geometrically redesigned to diffuse centrifugal force generated by modded engines. We have tested these on our OBR 30.5s and 27.2 full mods engines and they are practically indestructible! We don't see any foreseeable issues running on larger motors like the 62cc SkoPods. Center diameter is a whopping 14mm for the XL version! Our "Race Bone" version is 10mm in diameter and is designed to be lightweight and strong for racers in mind. Despite the XL's intimidating looks, the XL only weighs in at only 65grams. "Race Bone" will weigh in at approx 40g. Just for comparison - Stock SS steel version weighs in at 49g. These bones are patent pending. Lifetime warranty on these babies. We seriously doubt that you will ever break our bones, if you did, we will ship a set out to you within 24hrs. We will even pay priority shipping!

Slightly offset for set-screw attachment to hold the perch in place. Perch is a little taller around the neck to retain the spring more securely during jumping/bashing. They will also be no more play between the rod end and perch. Your shocks will be set solid and ready for ultimate bashing! Pricing TBA.

You are looking at prototypes. Final design is yet to be determined. Our chassis weighs 700g even with 4 nutted screws pressed in. Stock weighs 720g. Street price will be around $299.00

Ti Bulletproof Diff Gears

Our Ti diff gear set is designed to replace ALL your gears in your tranny. You will shave at least 40% of weight. Unlike the stock which is casted, ours will be machined out of billet titanium. They are super strong and light weight, made for ultimate racers in mind. You will see a dramatic increase in speed and spool curve when running our gear set. Picture here are the stock tranny gears, weighing at 263g, our goal is to have the gears come in at 140g. Will post our gear pics soon! Gears dimensions are in our CNC right now ready to be machined. Stay tuned for pics!!!

Below is our XL DogBone review posted on HPIBajaforum.com by a beta tester named "BajaRulez"

I had the opportunity of meeting Rob, Pablo and Mike from Zoni racing one day while out bashing here locally. We struck up a conversation and they said that they wanted to show me something...They picked up their 5B and pointed me to their DogBone and I said "HOLY SMOKES" what is THAT????

In my mind, I said to my myself that these guys are have gone absolutely bonkers! What are they thinking!!!??? That thing must have weighed as much as their 5B!

Then they said, I know what you thinking...You think this is heavy don't you??? Mike pulled out that DogBone and put it in my hand and I said...WOW!!! then (Speechless...)

Needless to say, I was absolutely flabbergasted!!!

I said - "Why is it so LIGHT????" What kind of material is it???. They said it's Aerospace Grade Ti- Ta- Nium!

I felt like a little kid again, actually all I wanted to do at that time was put that DogBone in my pocket and run home with it hehe...

Long story short, the guys at Zoni gave me a sample to beta test them. I've put in approximate 4 gallons of gas through my 5B and 5T now and this thing is still indestructible. What a beast!

I'm not going to say anymore, I will let my YouTube video and pics speak for themselves. These babies are among the earliest prototypes and nobody, I mean nobody, is going to pry them off my dead fingers.

FYI, I'm not getting paid to do this, however I'm keeping these babies though - mwaaa ha ha ha!!!

Thank you Zoni Racing! You guys Rock!

My 5b slammed into a ditch at approx 55 miles and hour. Shattered everything including the side of my engine. As you can see the weakest link is exposed!
